Happiness Is Being Independent!

It’s the month to be proud to be an Indian. It is also the month to ask ourselves, what have I done for india? And it is the month to teach our children, India is our country and let’s be proud to carry the tri colour.

Five   simple ways to make your child respect and cherish his/her country-
  1. Don’t teach your child that 15th august is just another bank holiday. It isn’t. Do something patriotic like going for a flag hoisting ceremony with your child, or showing them a flag hoisting on television or making a flag  and putting it up in your window or balcony..
  2. Teach your child to respect the tricolour, make one with your child and teach them that the tricolour should not be on the road or thrown on the ground. Make your child aware and pick up any tricolour that you see on the ground, then fold it away. Don’t walk on the tricolour.
  3. Decorate your room or one corner with photos of national leaders of the past, like Gandhi, Nehru, Vallabhbhai Patel, Bhagat Singh, Rajendra Prasad, Dadabhai Navroji, Sarojini Naidu. Finding the concept difficult? Well, how do you explain superman and batman to children? They are not even real, they are imaginary characters, and yet children accept them right? Similarly you can use your own ingenuity and creativity to explain about these national leaders.
  4. Wear the colours of the flag on your clothes or the food you cook.
  5. Do not make a cake in the shape of a flag and cut it, as you are cutting your national flag.

Four simple ways for you the parents and adults to be more patriotic  this year- .
  1. To love our friends and family deeply, day by day and be kind to each other and cherish them forever – spend the day with them doing simple things rather than at the mall or watching a movie. Watch a great movie at home, play a small quiz on india etc
  2. To honour each other’s differences and cherish the richness of our history and work unitedly towards a successful life… have a fancy dress with your family and friends , dress like any state in India, dance of the states, food of the states, a lot of hotels and restaurants have that theme, take your family there and let them from childhood understand that we are all different but we enjoy our difference.
  1. To believe in the promise of a better tomorrow and stand united in our efforts to give a peaceful nation to our children- go back to the old ways of community functions, know your neighbour, so get involved and arrange activities in your building, locality. Lets teach children how to be united, afterall children learn by imitation.
  2. To bind the people of our nation as one, in the strings of love and brotherhood, to celebrate in high spirit and renew the pledge of being united forever- that’s what it means to be a true Indian. – sing the national anthem with your family, and sing it with fervour. Be proud to be an Indian and don’t shy from showing it. Wear a badge, keep a flag in your car. Go patriotic to the fullest.

Have a great Independence day. We have earned it.

The responsibility of making the young generation understand the real meaning of Independence which was earned by our ancestors with a lot of efforts lies on us. The blog emphasizes on respecting our flag and also the importance of celebrating our Independence Day and not treat it like a holiday.

Dear Madam,
After reading your article,I tried to find out the answer for the question asked by you i.e. what have I done for India?

Although question seems to be very simple but it is really difficult for a person to answer this simple question. Most of us are working for the fulfilment of our personal desires. Our actions and thoughts are limited up-to the happiness of our family.

Independence day is a message that we all need to contribute for the development of our country. There is no harm if we sacrifice our personal interests for the greater good.
